A Bit of a Rant

Call it an earth-day special.

Shiny greetings, Reader,

Funny how we have Earth Day, when you'd think every day would be earth day for those of us who live here.

You'd think, seeing as how we never really leave, we'd make a point of honoring and outright glorifying this very cool planet swirling around in the universe, with us somehow attached to it.

It's not about politics

You'd think we'd take good care of our beautiful home!

But nooooo, we're doing this thing where we're running the place into the ground... so to speak.

And I don't believe for one red-hot second that what we're doing is a partisan thing.

This has a helluva lot more to do with our human penchant for domination and control.

And this penchant of ours goes way, way back to times when we didn't do near as much damage as we do nowadays with our "modern" mega-destructive technological advances.

With all our advances...

I mean, think about it, we didn't used to have so much crap to throw away—crap that'll last a lot longer than we ever will.

And we didn't used to have so many godawful chemicals and poisons to dump into our waterways and soil, and pump into the air we count on with every breath, and to just plain destroy everything (and each other) with.

We used to just do simple stuff like dump our bodily waste out the window or into a nearby stream. Not ideal, obviously, but wow, if only we'd known what opportunities for getting rid of the evidence would lie ahead.

Here's the thing, though—we can't really get rid of anything because nothing actually goes away, which we figured out a while back but we keep dumping things anyway.

And we keep creating more things, substances, and chemicals that we can't get rid of. But, as in the olden days, it seems we still have a sort of out-of-sight-out-of-mind approach to waste.

And not that killing each other in older, less techno ways, was better, but dayum, we've definitely upped our game in this category.

We bomb things in so many more ways than ever! And we pay for other people to bomb things and each other! And sell our sophisticated weapons and bombs to still more people (and make a tidy profit doing this, by golly!).

All the while (in the US, anyway), we act as though the "other side" is responsible for this bullshit behavior.

Yet no matter which "side" is in office, this bullshit behavior continues to increase. (And the weapons manufacturers keep making their money—a serious face-palm moment.)

I could wallow in the distress I feel

Anyway, so here we go again with Earth Day, as though we're off the hook the rest of the year.

Buy a card for the earth once a year, like we do for our mom, when here we sit with Mother Earth day in and day out, all year long, all our life long.

This place of ours is lucious and gorgeous, and freely provides us with everything we need to keep on living here—you'd think we'd be proud caretakers!

I get so distressed over how we treat each other (especially the people we don't like) and this island home we share, traveling along in this ever-expanding universe while our bean brains seem to be shrinking instead of expanding in capacity for love and respect for the planet and for each other.

Sheez.

But hold on just a minute!

At the same time, though, in the spirit of being the change I want to see in the world, I know better than to wallow in that distress.

I know that where my focus goes is what I cultivate more of. Where my focus goes is what grows. Where my focus goes is where energy flows.

It's that simple.

The energy I want more of has to be the energy I give my attention to—and thereby create.

Energy is everything, and everything is energy. Even the blame game we play instead of giving up on that cheap game and playing something far more valuable instead—something like the love and respect game.

So on this once-a-year day we call Earth Day, let's ditch the blame and the desperation, along with this greeting card approach and begin to look, look, and look some more for what's beautiful here.

Except that we do this every day, of course.

But that's obvious.

More, more, more. Give your attention to what you want more of.

This is the secret...

But it shouldn't be a secret.

Expand your mind, turn up your shine, and dare to feel good—

Be what you want more of in the world—every single day, because it's always EARTH day, of course.

And remember the secret—give your attention to what you want more of.

As always, I appreciate you very much,

Coco

P.S:

If you, too, get to feeling distressed and want to talk about rerouting that distress laced with no small measure of anger, mind you, let's talk one on one about your journey and your mental well-being.
