What a helluva an American summer we're having, no?
It's hot as Hell's front porch right now, sure, but what's really got our attention is this dagblasted election.
I pulled up an email I sent back when the current candidate appropriately named Trump was indicted in the Big Apple last spring. I felt like it was a good email then about watching out for more divisions, yet the latest news where he was shot at and the Secret Service didn't quite prevent this, let alone keep anyone else from getting killed or hurt, is news indeed. And it's already gained plenty of speed as people pick sides, lay blame, and lash out.
Oof, this election is getting even more charged than we could have predicted (even though, sure as shootin', we've got Monday morning quarterbacks out there saying they sure could have predicted something just like this.)
I've talked before about how I used to feel like I had a horse in the political races, but I don't anymore. I'm not allegiant to any or them, and I don't talk about politics anywhere but at home these days. It's just not worth the relationship anguish.
And ultimately, it's not real.
Whereas, our shared humanity is what's real.
So I used the above-mentioned previous email as a springboard to a new blog post where I'm basically pleading for humans to be good to each other:
And look, I realize that while you and I can do all we can to not be divided from our fellow humans over politics, we can't control how others think and what they do and whether or not they loathe or even dislike us a little based on where we fall along the opinion spectrum.
Yet the huge, huge thing is that the more of us there are who see the supreme importance of our shared humanity in this present moment, then that's fewer of us who don't. So it's simple ol' math—it's possible to outnumber the divisions.
So maybe I'm crazy, but maybe I'm just crazy in a good way, because every act of kindness, every moment of respect, every improved attitude, every peace-lover and tree-hugger who succeeds just a little brings humanity that much closer to better, more awakened, and more divinely connected than before.
So please take a look at this new post, and leave a comment if you're feeling inspired.
Thanks so, so much for being here, you magnificent being.
As always, turn up your shine, be peaceful, and remember to question everything.
I sure do appreciate you being on the other side of the screen,
Coco
